Christopher Lara, April 25, 2016

Senior Luncheon Speech Good Afternoon Everyone, I am Christopher Lara and I will be attending Loyola University of Chicago studying nursing; however, I didn’t plan my future like I do now. Ever since freshman year, we seniors have been growing and maturing with the help of the teachers, mentors, and work partners from Detroit Cristo Rey. All of the seniors you see here have been through many personal struggles, and adding the work load from school and extracurricular activities only made their jobs harder. This didn’t stop them, though, because every senior here has persevered through the Cristo Rey experience, and has come out more dedicated, more alert, and more prepared for future obstacles. I would like to thank our parents, work partners, and teachers in life for this great moment today . Alfred Tennyson, a poet who we may not remember, said something we should all apply in our lives at college, “To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield” Thank You

Jacqueline Perez - Biggest Personal Triumph

Jacqueline Perez 2/22/2016 The biggest personal triumph I have had to overcome in my life has been learning to deal with anxiety. I began experiencing anxiety/panic attacks during the summer of my sophomore year. Two things triggered them. First, I started a rotation as the admin intern after a successful experience through my school’s work study program. My employer was the Ideal Group. They own several types of corporations and manage all the activity in one location -- the one location where I worked.  In addition my parents separated after 12 years and the process was loud and angry.   As a result, I started to feel like things were out of control.  I realized I needed help. I found a good counselor who explained how I could regain a sense of control in my day-to-day life. She suggested breathing exercises and reading my favorite books. I could see the positive effects immediately. Then my junior year began and my teachers, advisors, work supervisor, and family began to ask

Jacqueline Perez - Goals and Strategies

Jacqueline Perez March 21, 2016 Goals and strategies can easily be misinterpreted for each other. Goals are the result or end product that a person wishes to reach. Goals are also the focus on the mission of a person because it determines how the mission will be fulfilled. The strategy is the steps on how the goals will be accomplished. Goals and strategy go hand in hand, but they aren’t necessarily the same. Goals are the end result or endpoint, while strategy is determining on how it will get to the end result. One of my goals is to finish my first year of college debt free. A strategy I have applied to accomplish this goal is to get good grades. By getting good grades, colleges and universities offer me more money and the scholarship stays consistent. I also decided to apply to many outside scholarships because they can be applied towards any school. Another way to achieve the debt free goal is to calculate how much a semester or year it would cost for the schools i'm l

My day started off as usual, when I got off the bus, I went straight to Ideal Surplus. Keith had me work on Sharon’s computer because she wasn’t here. I continued to help Jackie with receiving. We had more people help us but they were new to MAS and constantly needed help, so I was almost like a mentor for today. For the day, I was either helping out people with instructions or putting in items in the system. I had a good homemade lunch for today and I did some homework for lunch. I went back to Surplus and continued to help out. I helped Keith in the last couple of minutes by putting bearings in our system only. I had a great work day; I was able to get work done and help pout people.                 On April 17 th , 2016 at the Deltaplex in Grand Rapids, MI, a rookie team won the All-star award. This isn’t just any team, this is a team that is located in Southwest Detroit and is part of the REC’D Center as well. Team 5915 Mercy Midnight Storm an all-girls robot

Christian Perales April 19, 2016 What it means to be a Detroit Cristo Rey Student and Ideal Group Intern             To be a Detroit Cristo Rey student and Ideal Group intern, you must have pride but not arrogance, respect, kindness and the ability to always do your best because nothing less will be accepted. As a Detroit Cristo Rey student and an Ideal Group intern, I am able to hold myself up higher by bringing others up, rather than pulling them down. I am able to lead by example and create more leaders who will begin to live up to their potential. Everyone has the potential to be great, and the Ideal Group help you see your potential and help you achieve things you may have never dreamed yourself achieving.             I am Christian Perales, sophomore at Detroit Cristo Rey and intern at the Ideal Group. I am frequently receiving challenges and given bigger tasks than the last in order to grow and live up to my potential. I am seen as a leader to many, and I am able to set

Today was the juniors’ rotating Monday to work.   When I arrived to the office, I said hi to Pat and Osmara. I went to Surplus, changed into my work clothes, and went on to find Keith. Keith had me work with Jackie on receiving items. While I was working, I met Sharon, another Surplus member. I was able to get a lot of items into our system before lunch. After lunch, I ran into Frank and shook his hand. Frank also gave me an Ideal Contracting hat as well. After lunch, I went back and continued to work on receiving. My day went by fast but was very productive.                 On April 11 th , 2016, the Juniors of Detroit Cristo Rey took the SAT. What did I think about the SAT? I believed I did well in the SAT. I had a better feeling then when I took the ACT. I reviewed some of my practice guides that our teacher gave us and I made sure I had a good night rest before the exam. I felt good in every section of the exam and the essay topic was pretty straightforward f

Today was mostly a computer day for me. When I arrived at Ideal Surplus, I had to complete a mandatory training for Ideal Group on cyber security. I spent about an hour on the training. Once I was finished, I had to fill out an application online for Growing Detroit’s Young Talent.   While I was filling out the application, Jesse asked me if I could water his plants and deliver some papers for him. I had to go back to the main building to drop off some papers to accounting. I stopped by to say hi to Sylvia and she asked me and Enrique to create an executive slide about Detroit Cristo Rey’s robotics team and about the REC’D center as well. Sylvia also asked me to email Joaquin Nuno a quote I had about our build center. In a meeting, I said the build center was an area where young minds come together to help create the future. After our conversation, we went to lunch.          During lunch, I sent Joaquin the email and received a response within minutes. He loved th

Today was a Surplus day for me. I was going to continue to help Jackie with receiving. I have to get an item from the boxes and put it into MAS. It's a fairly easy process and it made it easier that I already have experience with MAS and I did this last week over my Easter Break. I enjoy doing receiving because you get to see many cool parts that we buy for our website and I also have to track down other details online. I was able to do a couple before I went to lunch.             After lunch, I went back to my desk. I did a Kevin Mitnick Security Awareness Training. They're a required training and I need to finish one more by Sunday. I put more items on MAS throughout the afternoon. Jackie and I ran into a few problems because some of the items were in a different language and we took a while to find it. I did more items throughout the day until I stopped to write my blog. My day was productive and now it’s time to wait for my school bus.              What is my long ter
