Busy Monday

I walked into Ideal and it was too warm. It was crazy. First thing I did was file PDPM and hard dollar folders. It took a while since it was a big pile. When I was done I started to file invoices from last Friday. While I was coming back to the office, Chelsea gave me material checks that had to be sign, so quickly I went and did them. Julie gave me money to go down stairs and get her cup cakes and cookies for us, all the money was going to the people for breast cancer. Lunch came and Bonnie order pizza for everyone. While I was eating I was helping Chelsea separate checks from the invoices and needed to be sign too. When it was all done Mike had a job for me but he told me he needed to finish something first so while waiting I went file more invoices. They were more PDPM and hard dollar folders to be file so I went and did them. When I was finally done filing, Bonnie had me mail invoices. Mike came and told me he needed me, he said he needed me to download drawings and put

First Monday

Coming in through the door I smelled something good. I looked inside our conference room and there was a bunch of sweets. I couldn’t think of any reason why there would be any cupcakes and cookies in the office but Amanda told me it was for the breast cancer fundraiser.  Knowing that, I went and got some cupcakes and cookies to help out. I had a really big sugar rush for the first few hours of work. After eating all of my treats I started printing some drawings for Chris. I started heading towards the printer and noticed that it need more paper. I got a roll from the cabinets and replaced the old one. Afterwards, the printer didn’t want to work so I had to restart it and wait for it to warm up. I felt like I wasn’t getting anything done so I multitasked and worked on a few sketches I was working on. A while passed and I went to check on the printer and grabbed a cupcake on my way up. The prints were done so I went to work. At lunch, I worked on my homework but I had a hard time u

Friday Fun Day

I walked into Ideal today and got ready to go field measuring with Bob. I changed into my field dress code and started hitting the road. It took a little while for us to get there but the view of the things I saw were pretty cool except for the road kill. When we finally arrived and got all our tools ready, we measured the length of every side of the sidewalk to get dimensions and then measured the slop of each point. Afterwards, we went to get something to eat really fast because we needed to go back to Ideal as soon as possible.                 When we finally arrived to Ideal Group I was asked to look out for some things that were arriving to the shop. Then I started drawing a few things to help out the guys upstairs. I drew a diagram of a ladder and some angles. When I had finished, I went back to talk to Chris and he said to work on more next time am here. Overall my day went great.

9-25-13 by Richard Zarate

So today I got here at Ideal Group little bit later then usual. When I got here I asked Alex for some work. I started working on some drops and  then picks. Later Mike came to say hi to me and to check on me. Later I took a 5 minute break and went to  my sister to see what she was doing. When I went to my sister she told me she was going to go somewhere and she wasn't going to be here for lunch. I told her it was fine and I went back to my desk to do my work. I kept on working until  it was my lunch break.  At 12 I went to the kitchen to get my lunch bag. For lunch I had spaghetti, fruit, and chips. I ate for only  30 minutes and I used my phone for a little bit. And when it was 12:45 I went back to work.     When I got back to work I felt a little bit drowsy and tired. It was probably because of lunch. I went to vending machine and got a coke and it woke me up. While I was working I heard Frank coming and I know that he was going to mess with me. Like always he started poking

Chris Lara 9-24-13

September 24, 2013- Blog- Chris Lara Today was a very busy day. I started off doing some basic tasks such as responding to emails and writing Thank You letters. Then Sylvia came in and told me what I was going to be doing for the rest of the day. I was to create fifteen packages and ten metric sheets. The packages were all information about an even at Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation. The metrics were informational facts about Cadillac Urban Gardens on Merritt St. These were simple tasks so I completed them quickly. After, I went to lunch and worked on an art project. I didn’t get very far until I remembered I had a great amount of work to get done, so I cut my lunch early and left. I then began on my second task; I was to modify a general for people that were invited to the event. Then, I made separate packages for everyone. This took the whole afternoon until I left work. Today was a busy but fun day; I wish I could stay longer.

Jacqueline Perez-9.24.13

Jacqueline Perez- September 24, 2013- Blog It was an amazing day at Ideal Group today. Today I worked with Jennifer again, but I’m not complaining. All day I worked with Jennifer, and I did some filing, created invoices, and vouchered. Whenever I needed help I just called her over, but I’m getting a hang of everything I do. Today I was also supposed to work with Rachel but I didn’t have the time but maybe next time. I had lunch today with Christopher, another intern from Detroit Cristo Rey and it was hilarious since we get along pretty great. We have almost every class together in school since we’re both sophomores. During lunch I also got some amazing news from one of my teachers. I got accepted into the program called Dollars for Scholars which will take me to colleges, help me with choosing one and even give me a scholarship. I am super excited with the news and plan on taking advantage of this great program.

9/20/13

Today was a pretty great day at Ideal, maybe because it’s Friday. I went to my office and I saw material checks lying there, so I made copies and started right away. Later Bob needed me to do folders for him that he would use in the meeting. Then I return to my desk and continue doing material checks. Then Julie gave a check that needed a signature so I went and sign in right away.   Lunch came, but I wasn’t that hungry, so I went and got a snicker from the shop. I went upstairs and took a little brake. Bonnie told me there was cake in the kitchen so I went and got some. Lunch was over, and I continue doing the material checks. It was a big pile so it took me forever to finish. Finally when I was finished, I helped Bonnie mail and file invoices that she had over the week. Then I went a file PDPM and hard dollar folders. The mail came and I quickly did that. So far today I didn’t do as much work as I usually do. Jose Patino

Day at Ideal

Today was a normal day at Ideal Group. I was really happy to come in to work since I won my scholarship from the Hispanic Caucus. Everyone kept telling me how great it was and how proud they are which made me feel great. I can’t wait to keep apply for more scholarships and receiving money so I don’t have any debt. I want to be able to say that I don’t owe any money and I can start my career right after college. When entering the front door Amanda called me to her desk and asked about the award Ceremony on Tuesday.  On Tuesday we will head downing to Lansing were I will be presented with my award and have dinner with the people that gave me the scholarship. I am very excited and can’t wait for that day to come. After talking to Amanda, I went upstairs and Spencer gave me a few things to print out and then had me drawing. I drew a replica of a ladder we had to measure and get the measurement from. Afterword I went downstairs to help Setech with some of their filing. For lunch Osmar

Alejandro Macias 09/19/13

Today went really well so much that I learn how to be prepared in order to keep up with the company. I know sometimes for me it has been difficult to remember names, words, and my own work. The assignment I receive my email should be check every email, being organize, but to also learn to work at an office.   Today was good although I personally asked couple questions, so I wasn’t behind on my tasks. I learned always bring a notebook that somehow it will work on my hand writing and memory, and simply not the iPod or the iPhone. I also learning typing real quickly bring a lot of work ethic and good for keeping up. I learned I need to know how to use a computer so that everything can be on point. I learned to time my own task, make sure I don’t forget them and not miss what’s going. Last on the computer, it’s important to check email when someone wants to communicate with you. I learned it’s important to be polite to people I work with; by saying good morning it brings happiness to

My 4th day by Richard Zarate

Today was my 4th day as a intern for Ideal Group. When I got here I went to my desk and sat down for a while. When Alex came I ask her for some work and she sent me some and I started working. After I finished I went back to Alex and ask her for some more work and she said she didn't have that much left so she asked someone else for some work. When I was working, Dennis came to me and said he was going to be my supervisor for the day because Mike wasn't here.   Later that day, I went to my sister for some work and she told me that she didn't have anything to do but she told  me to make a cover page for the binder of Ideal Group Interns. So I did and I went back to work on some drops and after I finished and  I had nothing to do. I went to Osmara for some work but she had nothing for me and then I went to Amanda for work but she had none. Later Alex sent me some PO's to do. When I was working I heard Frank say who's this kid and I know he's coming my way. Whe

Jacqueline Perez-9.17.13 Another Day in Accounting

Today is another great day at Ideal Group. It was pretty easy but some things are a little confusing. Jennifer helped me a lot since I worked with her all day. It has been a casual day today. I am sick but I still tried my best.         I did a couple of different things. I learned how to voucher invoices and did many things that I had done before. I filed, logged in Chrysler, and did some of the voucher invoices on Symix. I remembered a lot of things, but if I didn't, I asked Jennifer because she's very helpful..         For lunch I had a delicious Nutella sandwitch with an apple and cookies. Today I worked on Kelly's desk, who is another co-worker, and hopefully she doesn't get mad. Like any other day I am tired and wanting a nap but overall it was a great day.

My 3rd day by Richard Zarate

Today was my 3rd day as a intern for Ideal Group. When I got here I met Antonio. The first thing I did was finish the drops from last week. After I finished the drops I ask Alex for more work and she gave me more drops to do. Later I did some BOL's (bill of lading), picks, and PO's. They are easy to do but I did a lot of them and it took some while. Around 11:55 I stopped because it was going to be my lunch break.  When I was going to get my lunch I saw Frank and he pushed me. After that I went to go get my lunch and I went back to my seat and started eating my lunch. I finished my lunch fast and I sat at my desk finishing up the picks. I finished at around 12:25 and had nothing to do because Mike went to go get lunch and I didn't know where Alex was. Later I realized I forgot to eat my yogurt so I went back to get it and I saw Frank and of course he pushed me. When I saw Alex I ask her for more work and I started doing PO's.   Basically my whole day I did drops, BO

2nd Day at Ideal

Today was a good day. My second day working at Ideal. I came, went upstairs and said hi to everyone. The door was closed so I couldn't go into the office until Chelsea or Dave were here, so I went to Yesis's desk. There, Julie told me to go get a shirt from her office because I needed it for tomorrow at the walk in the Zoo. Luckily I found my size. later, I helped Bonnie mail out invoices. it took me a while, there were a lot. then I had to file some of her invoices. Lunch came and they brought pizza. It was a pretty good lunch, it got me full. I took a little break and got back to work. Earlier Sylvia brought some guests, so I had to present myself and talk about what I do at work. We had a great conversation. In the afternoon everyone went golfing, so it was only Chelsea, Katy and I.

Another day at Ideal

Today was a long day at Ideal. I started out helping Spencer print out some drawings and then he had me looking for some parts in the shop. I looked everywhere for them until I found them on a cabinet. I headed towards Spencer’s desk when Amanda called me to her office and asked me about the scholarship I was trying to apply for. I was missing my transcript and that caused a lot of problems but I still managed to get everything I needed.  I then went to lunch with Osmara. At lunch, Osmara and I went to pick up some tacos. I had a lot of fun talking about going to college and how I was doing in school. I decided that Marygrove might be one of my top choices and I might go there next fall. I think I can handle going to college, and am really excited about it now. After lunch, I went back to work in the steel department. I had to print out some more drawings and get all of them together. At the end of the day, Dennis called me to his desk and had me take some bollard covers to the b

My 2nd day by Richard zarate.

Today was my second day as a intern for Ideal Group. My day started off great I came in the building and Mike gave me my pass and I started finishing the mailers from last week. I spent about 2 hours doing mailers and later Mike told me to take a quick break. I went to see what my sister was doing and Mike told Sylvia that I was doing a great job . Sylvia told me to take at least a quick break every 1 hour of using the computer. After my quick break I went back to work. Later that day I met Linzie and Frank Venegas. Frank is a funny guy and seems like a cool boss . At 12o'clock I started eating my lunch at my desk and 5 minutes later my sister told me to eat lunch with her. During lunch I got to meet Alex. When I was eating my lunch my sister Osmara told Alex about a movie that i was going to go see Friday and she told her a lot about the movie and ruined it a little bit for me. At 1 I went back to work and Mike told me that at 2 o'clock Alex was going to teach me about drop

Jacqueline Perez-09.10.13, 3rd Day

Today has been my third day at Ideal Group, it was great. I did open up a little more today since I was shy the last couple of times I was here,   but I’m still working on it. Today I did Drop Ship POs again and filing. It’s starting to get easier than before. I’m starting to write down instructions of what I’m told since it’ll help me remember. At one point my head hurt a little from looking at so many numbers so I began to sort mail.   I wanted to go to the garden today and get out of the office for a while but that’s okay, I can do that next time. I am looking forward on coming back every Tuesday and every 4 th Monday, I love this job.

Christopher Lara- 9/10/13

September 10, 2013: Blog         I started my day with yesterday’s incomplete work. I had to put together packages for an event coming up at Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation. I was able to get through most of the packages yesterday, but I still had two left. I quickly completed them in the morning while the office was still quiet.         When Sylvia came in she told me about a news article that Frank was in and she wanted a copy of it for Frank to see. This would be an example of small tasks I get every day.         After, Sylvia introduced me to some more packages that I had to complete. This time there were more packages and less time. I sat down and started to think about how much time I was going to spend on each package. I then pulled up all the documents on my desktop, and I started to gather my supplies. I started to work on the packages and finished after a couple of hours. I was surprised at how I completed these tasks so fast and realized that it was because o

Christopher Lara- 9/9/13

September 9, 2013: Blog I started my day like any other. I checked my email, talked to Sylvia about my tasks, and then put my plans in motion. Although my tasks were not plentiful yesterday, they were very detailed. I had to put together some packages for an event at Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation. I was to put together many different pieces of paper that, when all combined, made a large booklet of information. The booklet consisted of many sheets of information concerning the event and silent auction registration. The day had many inconsistencies but I was able to get through most of it and complete my job the next morning. Some things I should have done better were to watch my time and stay on track. If I timed myself and set time goals throughout the day then I would have been able to get through my tasks faster. Also, I should have stayed on track more. I was tired at first, but in the afternoon I found myself getting distracted by the simplest things. Staying on t

Jacqueline Perez 09.09.2013 2nd day

Today is my second day working at Ideal Group and it has been great. Tomorrow I will be coming in again as well, since today was my Monday rotation. It’s an awesome experience so far. I have realized that I need to be a little more open and not as shy. It takes me a little while for me to open up to others. Today I met new people and will be meeting more in the future. I will try to be less shy and a little more open. My head did hurt a little today but I didn’t complain and finished my job. I worked with Jennifer a lot today and learned new things. I opened mail, sorted it, and filed. It not as hard as it seems, you just have to get the hang of it. I’m still working in accounting and the people here are awesome. I do plan on being in another department later on in the future. I feel that accounting isn’t really my thing. I had a good day and hopefully will have another great one tomorrow.

First Day at Ideal

Today was my first day going back to work at Ideal. I went upstairs and I said hi to everyone, they all looked happy to see me, I guess they missed me…..or not. It felt good going back to work, especially on Fridays. Tuesday I started school and I’m proud to say I’m finally a senior now. It’ll be an interesting year. Once I came into Ideal I knew it was going to be a busy day. They were a lot of invoices to be mailed and file, and a lot of material checks to be done. So I started right away since there’s not enough hours in a day. I finished filing invoices and mailing them so I went and did material checks. Lunch came so I went downstairs in the conference room since Jose Perez was alone eating. But after doing that I went to say hi to Frank, some Mexican ladies were in there so I had to talk to them in Spanish, it was fun. They were telling me they came all the way from Guadalajara , Jalisco Mexico . I’m from there too, so of course, I had to tell them I’m from there, we had

First Day at Work

Today was my first time back at Ideal Group since the summer. I’m excited to be back and working for such a great company. I got to see some of my really close friends and also meet new ones. Another thing that is very exciting is being a senior this year even if I have to have a lot of responsibility and goals this year. I’ll have to be a leader and help out all the new interns that work at Ideal. I also have to keep in mind what university I want to attend next fall and what I want to do with my future.                 My day started with coming in and going to my new office in the Miscellaneous Steel office. I can’t wait to see the new things I will learn that will help me in the future. Spencer gave me a task to look for different things all around the shop. Afterwards, Virginia had me look up some old invoices in our MAS system. Then, I went to lunch and had a good talk with Jose about our new school year. We then came to an agreement to get the highest grades

Jacqueline Perez- 09.3.13

Today is my first day at the Ideal Group. I'm going to be honest and say that I do miss my old job. The people here are very nice and I really liked it. This morning I was introduced to many people and I am now working in accounting with my awesome co-workers. During lunch we went to the Cadillac Urban Garden and got some vegetables and flowers. I am taking some home and I already ate some vegetables too.      As of right now, i'm tired after this long day but it's been great i'm not complaining. I dealt with a lot of drop ship POs and filing. It was a little hard but I had help from the people I work with. I did learn a lot from how to log in the computer to filing today. I'm glad I came and looking forward to coming back next Tuesday.

Chris Lara- 9/3/13

Chris Lara- 9/3/13 The first day is my favorite day, but you’ll like the second one even better. Today was the first day of my Ideal internship. This is my second year at Detroit Cristo Rey and now I am a sophomore. Detroit Cristo Rey has a corporate work- study program where you go to work to help pay off your school tuition. This year I am working with Sylvia and Amanda in Administration. I am hoping for the best and I will do all I can to make sure I learn new ideas. Also, we have two new interns that are going to be working at The Ideal Group. They are Jacqueline Perez and Richard Zarate. I got into the office and I checked my email. Sylvia had sent me some documents to print and put in a folder for Frank. Right after I completed that, Sylvia walked in, and I greeted her. We talked about my tasks, and how to complete them. I had to complete an expense report, create a storyboard for Cadillac Urban Gardens, and collect mailing information for some volunteers. The expense repo
