Homecoming                 It’s my senior year and you can bet that I am going to Homecoming tonight. It’s our time, as the 2016 class, to blow the party through the roof! Today’s game plan is to get out of work, go home and change, arrive at homecoming around 7:30 pm, have fun with friends until 10, and then go somewhere to eat. I’m excited to spend one of my final dances as a senior with my close friends, and have a blast doing it.                 People of other cultures might not know about homecoming, since it is more of an American thing. Basically, one of the school’s sports teams has a game, and then has a dance involving the whole student population to celebrate the efforts put into that game. Usually it an American football game, but since we don’t have a football team, it was our Lady Wolves Volleyball team that was victorious last night!                 Although we will all be having joyous times, I will still be safe and drive home carefully before midnight.            The whole reason I want to go into my main field of study is that I just feel incredibly happy to be playing video games, helping people, and fixing/making things. Ever since I was a kid I felt lonely and had horrible depression and anxiety but video games have made those emotions go away so that is why I want to become a video game designer. I have loved helping people all my life because I know that it is better to help other before I help myself and so I want to become a nurse. Whenever I fix something or make something into reality, it makes me feel alive and accomplished and because of this I have because interested in becoming a software designer/engineer, or mechanical engineer. I really would love to put my creative mind to use and my passion for helping people into play when I get older so that I can hopefully make someone feel happy.             Today was really busy and intriguing until the end of the day. In the morning I wanted to know if anyone had anyth

Today was a pretty good day. After I got off the bus, I went to Ideal Surplus. I went to Gary's office and he gave me my project and a new task. He gave me a list of items, he wanted me to change the category of the item that were highlighted. After I finished the task, I continued to work on my project. I just had to do 4 pages to finish  the packet. I went to Gary for some more work and he gave me a list of items to look at. I had to find the prices of the items and put them on an excel sheet. I did a few before going to lunch.    During lunch, a man came to drop off a present for Frank, Sylvia asked me to give him a tour about our Detroit Cristo Rey Wall. While I was giving him a tour, Frank called us into his office. They talked about Ideal Group, Hudson Motor Car Company, American Motors, Canoe Club, Cristo Rey, and about a man named Shahid Khan. The meeting was pretty interesting, after the meeting, I had lunch and went back to Surplus. I continued to work on my project u
Christian Perales October 27, 2015 Would I Consider Double Majoring? If So What Would They Be?      I would consider double majoring because it would be a good way to get a head start on my future. The two subject I'd major in would be Architectural design and Business. This is because the  career I would like to pursue would be architecture, ever since I was a child I have been interested in building things and the materials that go into building them. There are so many amazing buildings around the world, and each has a very complex design. The architecture field has good money in  it as well. The secondary career I will have would be business.  This is because business has many opportunities for partnerships with other businesses and a depending on how you use your knowledge it can bring in a lot of money. Having a background in business would help my ideal carrier choice in architecture as well. So double majoring is a smart thing to do, althoug

Today was an average day as usual. When I got off the bus, I went straight to Ideal Surplus. I went to Gary's office but he wasn't there, but I knew where he left my task. I continued to work on the project, I had to add the picture id to items on MAS. After I finished my sheet, I took it to Gary. Gary printed another list of papers for me to do. I did about 8 pages of items before lunch. When I went walking back to the main building, I stopped to  say hi to Loren and he introduced me to some people.   While I was at Ideal Group, I said hi to Sylvia and Amanda. After lunch, I went back to Surplus. I continued to work on my project. I did about 7 pages when I got back. I think the total amount of pages I did today was about 18, the most I've ever done. Around 3 PM, I started to write my blog. My day went by pretty fast, but I was able to get a lot done.   What is my main career? I would like to be a Petroleum Engineer, but if that doesn't work out, I'll like to

The main career that I wish to have in the future is a video game designer but if that doesn’t work out for me then I would most likely get a job in something similar. My second choice would be a software designer, nurse, or computer scientist because I love the feeling of accomplishment I have when I have worked vigorously towards one goal and finally complete it. That feeling makes me feel like I will always be a great if I work hard towards something. Also as a game designer I wish to make people happy in the same way games have made me happy. As a software designer, nurse, or computer scientist I could accomplish the same but through a different way.              Today I had a very casual and easy going day. In the morning there was not anything on my desk so I went to go see if I could do any scan so I could be productive in any way possible. I eagerly did scan until about lunch. I did this because I wanted to entirely clear the scans box of all scans. I went to lu

Jacqueline Perez October 23, 2015 Impact with 1,000 dollars If I was given the opportunity to provide someone with $1,000 dollars and be able to make an impact in the world or community it would be Linda Rhodes Sylvia Gucken or my mother. All three women have impacted the Southwest Detroit area one way or another. I feel like they would all do different things with the money but it all goes back to the community or the world. Linda Rhodes, is a woman who loves kids and does amazing events hosted for children. I see that if she was to receive the $1,000 she would give back to the community by making a center for kids. Linda might also start investing projects that would help other communities do the same thing she’s doing here in Southwest Detroit. Sylvia Gucken has invested a lot of time, effort, and dedication in bringing back the pride of Southwest Detroit. She has given the guidance to organizations, schools and companies help the community. I know that if she was gi

If I were to have been given 1000 dollars I would and given the chance to use it on something to help my community, I would use it to help benefit the people who would most benefit from it. I would but hundreds, if not thousands of seeds, of different fruits, vegetables, and jugs of water. I would take those resources to places struggling for food. I would have people learn how to harvest and grow food so that they may better the health of their city and maybe even country. They food they harvest will be given away to the citizens of that area but they must take out the seeds of those foods so that they can be used for the next harvest. This is necessary so that food won’t just be a onetime idea. If this were to be a success and people followed that recycling rule then the people there would have less famine and hopefully establish a better life of the citizens and America’s ties with that country. The money would go to an amazing cause and it would make everyone happy.

Today was a messy day. When I got off the bus, I went straight to Ideal Surplus. I changed into my work clothes and then I went to Jackie. Jackie had me work on a assignment. I was going to work in Dennis computer, but he didn't have the new update for Sage. I was moved to Gary's computer for a meanwhile. While I was working, Gary came back and I had to switch Computers again. I was moved back to the main building where I was placed into 3 different computers until I was finally placed in one. I worked on my assignment until lunch.  During lunch, Sylvia talked to me and Enrique about our blog topic. After lunch, I went back to Surplus because Pamela left for the day and I could use her computer. I worked on my assignment until I finished. I asked Gary for my project and he handed me some papers. I  had to put the picture id on the items that didn't have any. My day was pretty great, I got to use about 6 computers today.   If I could give anyone $1,000 dollars, who woul
Christian Perales October 20, 2015 If I were given $1,000 who would I give it to and why? If I were given $1,000, who would I give it to and why? I would give the money to my parents, because they sacrifice a lot for me and my siblings and always made sure that we had what we needed. $1,000 is no where near what my parents sacrificed for my siblings and I, but it is something. My parents had the biggest impact on who I am today, and I am glad to say that I am turning out alright... In my opinion. In the future I will be sure to be able to give back to all those who helped me because without them, I would never make it to where I want to be.

Jacqueline Perez October 16, 2015 Changing the world I find that the world we live in has lots of unfortunate problems whether it's poverty, pollution, etc but if I was to change one thing it would be if everyone in the world had a source of clean water and food. Everyday there are people that die of malnutrition or hunger, and that worries me because everyday we see people throw away food that others could consume. There are lots of help so in countries with higher poverty rates, but I we still don’t do enough. There are countries that have no clean source of water. Water is an essential need for the body, the human body consists of over 70% water. Contamination is a big factor in not having a clean water source. If the rest of the world would not dump in the oceans, river, or lakes maybe we could save the lives of many. My plan of changing the world isn’t original, but it sure is effective. I know that if it were to  ever come true I dedicate my life in keeping th

College Readiness                 I worked in Setech today, and I had to finish up some data entry sheets that I occasionally have to do. It was another one of those consistency jobs that focused on diligence. It was nice to have an established routine to being my day.                 I also worked on some items that will help me with my application into different colleges. The major thing I worked on was the Common App that many public and private colleges take. It’s a big, bulky online resume of your education, family, heritage, and involvement. Jesse said that he wanted to see it completed soon so we could talk more about my ideas of college and some catching up. The most difficult part of the Common App was the essay portion because I had to choose between some very interesting prompts. I picked the prompt which is described as an interest or background information that should be included with the application. Right now, I don’t have it complete, but I am outlining what I w

More about me. I was born in Detroit and was the only one in my family to be born here. I have loved video all of my life due to the fact that it gives me an escape from stress and other worldly problems that make me worry about various things and hope to create them as a career. At a very young age I had loved to take things apart and figure out how they work. I love to make people happy and I hate it when other people are in distress therefore I would love to go in the programming, medical, or engineering field. These fields can teach me how to help other people in various ways. I could make people feel joy or even save lives as a doctor. I am a single parented 16 year old young adult. Like video games, I have also found music to be an amazing source where people can escape everyday life. I am hoping to successfully learn AutoCAD and be fluent in Java, a coding langue. The robotics team is an interest that I really want to join this year because of my love for how things

When I got out of the bus, I went straight to Ideal Surplus. I changed into some work clothes. I was about to go Gary's office when Jackie told me they moved offices. I went to Gary's new office and asked him for some work. He gave me my usual tasks, but told me hat Dennis had something for me. Dennis wanted me to update some the item categories. I got to learn something new about MAS. I only had 2 pages of items and finished in about an hour. After I finished, I continued adding pictures to the IJP's. I got about 4 pages done before lunch.   After lunch, I continued to work on the pictures for the IJP's. I did about 6 more pages and the I was all done with my task. After I finished, I started to write my blog.  My day was pretty great today, I was able to learn something new.   How do I see myself? I see myself as an exciting prospect. I know I can do well in life, I believe I can become someone in the future. I'm a hard working teenager that try's my best
Christian Perales October 12, 2015 If You Could Change One Thing In The World What Would It Be and Why?           If there is one thing in the world I could change, it would be violence. For example, how are people supposed to advocate peace if there are bombings occurring during peace rallies, killing and injuring hundreds. If pointless acts of violence were replaced with acts of peace and kindness, the world would be a lot better, safer and prosperous. The little acts of kindness could have the biggest impact, such as a simple handshake, holding the door, and even a smile could go a long way. People shouldn't have to grow up living in fear, everybody deserves to have a peaceful life. No one is made to bring violence, it is a choice that is made.

New Task by Richard Zarate

Today, when I got to Surplus, Gary told me that I wasn't going to add pictures on Mas. I was going to do something new. He gave me a list and I had to find the prices of the items on the internet. This task was pretty tricky because if you don't find it on Ebay, then you have to search it on Google. Sometimes you even have to type it differently, I did about 4 pages before lunch.   When I got back from lunch, I continued on my task. It was pretty tricky because sometimes the part number wouldn't work and I had to use the details of the item. I finished all my pages and then I had to finish Pamela's pages as well. I got through the task quicker because I knew how to search up items faster. After I finished, I gave Gary the papers and started to write my blog. Today was a pretty good day.   How am I preparing for standardized tests? I feel like my only weakness is reading, it's hard for me to get into reading.           How am I preparing for the SAT's/ACT's ?             I have actually been preparing for the ACT and SAT more than I have planned! I have actually been reading a lot more and I have been getting book recommendations from friends. The Collage Readiness course has introduced me to Khan Academy, an online website full of academic courses, and I am trying to learn a bit of new things and refresh my memory on some of the old. The course has also given me practice selections from the standardized tests. Detroit Cristo Rey is also making us take the PSAT next week, which is not a mandatory exam, although it will help us with taking future standardized tests and enroll us in a chance to get the scholarship that the PSAT offers. Intern Ideal Blog for 10/08/15           My day has been a really fantastic day. In the morning Richard and I were dropped off and we made our merry way inside. I saw only Steve inside but I knew that they had assigned work for me. As I walked in
Christian Perales October 6, 2015 How is Soccer Impacting Your Academic Life? Soccer is impacting my academic life in a positive way. The reason for that is because I have been in sports since I was little and have been able to manage both my academic life and athletic life. Being a student athlete, the student part comes first, though many others see it the other way around. Being a Detroit Cristo Rey student athlete is an even bigger challenge because I am stuck with minimal time to do homework and do my sport. I am also pressured to keep my grades up because of high expectations and the potential I have. Freshman year, my overall GPA was 3.95, and I played four sports which were Basketball, Soccer, Baseball and Track. Without sports, I wouldn't know what to do with my time. I'd probably procrastinate more. Sports help me stay active, stay studying so I remain eligible, stay sharp, and helps me build better problem solving and performance skills that I can apply in s

Jacqueline Perez October 2, 2015 Stress but successful The first month of senior year has been very stressful. I have been applying for college, scholarships, and for programs/organizations. Although these things have consumed lots of my time, I still have good grades. Being busy, means lots of time consumed. I have deadlines for applications and scholarships, so I have to do those in a certain period of time while still having to do my homework everyday. I also have things to do for the programs I’m in, like Campus Ministry I have to set events. In Yearbook, I have to get some spreads done. Being busy has taught me how to time manage and how to complete things in an orderly manner. I do the things that are due on the nearest deadline first. I then move on to things that are easy. I then do the things that are a little more challenging or that require lots of time. I might have a lot of things on my plate, but I am happy with what I’m accomplishing and I know it’ll he

Consistency and Order Today in Setech, I had more data entry to work on from last week, so as soon as I arrived at my desk, I began working on that task. This set of spread sheets were similar to the last set, except they were more difficult to read. I managed to get through them, but I realized that small changes or errors may snowball into a large effect. If someone wrote a zero instead of the letter ‘O’ in a spreadsheet, it could have drastic effects in code or data. This problem could escalate if I had to enter this data, but entered it wrong, I could be damaging tons of data if someone wanted to look for this part. I think the importance of making sure everything is in order and working in an accurate pace, rather than a quick pace, is overall sustainable for a company. It promotes positive work ethics, and helps it stand out as a company that makes fewer mistakes than other companies. I still have to enter some more data on Friday, but it is a task I look forw

Data Entry Today’s task in Setech was a job that required a mindset capable of consistency and diligence-- data entry. I met Steve Kuplicki, the Senior Project Manager in Setech, who gave me a plethora of sheets to enter onto an excel spreadsheet.                 The information given to me included job locations, quantities, descriptions, manufacturers, conditions, and notes, all carefully written on a physical copy. I had to transfer the written information onto an online version that had the same data table. I practiced keeping a fluid transition between each set, as there were around 17 sets per page, and around 20 pages given to me. First, I had to familiarize myself with the handwriting of each person because not all of the sheets were written by the same person. After, I began running down the rows from left to right, trying to see if this method was the most time efficient. After feeling like I could be faster, while still keeping the same level of accuracy, I ran dow

Today I have finally made a great leap into something I have been wanting to learn and I have been also doing temp scan for the work place. When I got off the bus I went straight to my work area and sought out any work anyone had left for me. After I received my assignment I got a cup of coffee for the energy and got straight to work.           My first assignment was to work on saving "PO Temp Scans" on to Sugar. I received my first stack and completed it within an hour or so. After the stack was done I wanted to make sure if anyone in my office need any help. By the time I had asked everyone no one really needed much help. I wondered if I could start to learn CAD because of how much it was used in my department.            I told Steve how I want to learn CAD and Java Script and to my surprise he actually liked the idea of me learning CAD. So he asked me if I wanted to get it on my desktop so I could learn how to thoroughly learn as much as I could. So we walke

Today was a good day. When I got off the bus, I went to Surplus. I changed into work clothes. I said hi to Pamela. Gary had me work on the project of adding pictures to the items that didn't have any on MAS. I finished 3 pages of the items and went to Gary for more. Gary gave me another list of items. I was able to finish 3 pages before lunch. Before I left, I said goodbye to Pamela because she leaves in the afternoon.   I had lunch with Enrique and we talked about our day. After lunch, I bought a Sprite because I felt sleepy. I continued to work on the items. I also filed some invoices and made a list of blog topics and sent them to Osmara, so she could approve them. I worked on the list until 3:10 p.m. and then I started to write my blog.
