Jacqueline Perez - DRIVEN

Jacqueline Perez November 30, 2015 DRIVEN DRIVEN is an automotive industry magazine in which both Frank and Jesse are featured in.  After reading Frank’s forward and the article about Jesse I have come to understand Ideal more than I already have. I also learned a lot about Frank, and his kids, Jesse and Linzie as individuals. I learned lots of things from Frank and his kids by reading DRIVEN. In the article about Ideal Group, Frank expresses that instead of being an engineer like his family wanted, him to he became an entrepreneur. That set an example to me to do what will make me happy and not what others want me to do. Linzie is the Marketing Manager of Ideal and she has showed an example of success and knowledge although she’s a Hispanic women. Jesse is Ideal Setech’s vice president and general manager. I think of Jesse a person who watched the company grow and realized his potential within the company, so now his goal is to continue to grow the company and follow his
Christian Perales November 24, 2015                         It is very common for people to write what they are thankful for during the few days before thanksgiving. Though, there are many people who just say simple things as an easy way to get the whole writing part over with. When this happens it is easy to overlook the actual value of those things. I am thankful for my family, and this is because without them what would I do and what type of person would I have turned out to be? Family is taken for granted too much and too often nowadays, and if you were to really get into it, some friends are like family in the sense that they are there for you and you see them all of the time… Even if you may not want to. Which brings me to another thing I am grateful for, and that is friends, this is because after family your friends will be the people you see the most, and of you go to Cristo Rey you might see them even more on some days. I am also thankful for teachers, and this is not a
Christian Perales November 17, 2015 What Is My Favorite Place in Southwest Detroit, And Who Would I have Help Improve it             My Favorite place in Southwest Detroit is the Michigan Central Station, and it is my favorite place because it is a very beautiful building and it has plenty of history. I have been by the building countless times and I am always amazed by the way it looks. As a child growing up in Southwest Detroit, I have always loved the old train station, which is what I called it before I learned its actual name. When I have walked by the Michigan Central Station once I really took time to take in its beauty, but then I also noticed that around it, there was a lot of graffiti and the walkway was full of trash. I would choose SDEV (Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision) to help with the fixing up of the area. SDEV is an environmental group that focuses on helping the environment. With the help of SDEV, I believe that many people would come to visit the

The things that I am thankful for are things that are very common to people such as my family, friends, God, my internship, all my clothes. The other things are not very common but I am thankful for being a person with moral freedom and having video games in my life. Usually my mom always does something for thanksgiving but occasionally we go to a gathering where we split up the individual tasks. To divide up the work when my mom is the only one doing everything, we could help out with the cleaning or the cooking because my brothers get really lazy because of the school vacation. And to prevent that “ugghh” moment right after the feast I really think we should considering buying a pack of Alka-Seltzer for every person because knowing myself and my family we would over-stuff ourselves more than that turkey.             Today was mainly filing weeks of over-due filing. In the morning I tried to look for Jennifer to see what my other tasks were but I could not find her. Sin

Today after I got off the bus, I walked over to Ideal Surplus. When I got there, I changed into my work clothes. I went to Gary's desk and asked him for my tasks. I was originally going to do some cycle counting with Paul Screws, but the cycle counting was postponed. Gary had me work on an assignment on Ebay where I had to change the item number. I continued where Christopher left off. The assignment was quite easy but just time consuming. I did about 2 pages of items before lunch.    I went home for lunch with my sister and came back. I talked to Enrique for 10 minutes before my lunch was over. I went back to Surplus and continued to work, while I was working, I met Raul Rodriguez, a new member of the Surplus team. I did about 2 more pages before I stopped to write my blog. My day was pretty good.    Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks, but a lot of people think it's just a day about food. Some people just eat and don't do anything in the end. There are ways to pre

Fredrick Julian Gonzalez and the Ric Gonzalez Memorial Foundation                 Individuals who possess traits that progress communities lead by having strong involvement and innovative mindsets. Back in the 70’s, a spark created through the union of Ric Gonzalez and his father would provide the starting mechanism to build a family owned company- Gonzalez Design Engineering Company (GDEC)- which would lead to his charitable giving. The charities he supported would give to families in need, and even financially supplement students with scholarships to allow them a gateway to succeed in life.                 As a business man, Ric Gonzalez led his company with strong connections to his customers and employees. Gonzalez Design Engineering knew that supporting the Southwest Detroit area would provide beneficial aspects, from basic financial strategies to helping a community that needed jobs, so GDEC joined the Hispanic Manufacturing Center (HMC).              My responsibilities are to make sure that I can be as useful as possible. In the morning there are usually enough scans to last me until lunch and after, I usually do other projects that Alex has sent me through an email or go to accounting to help file. In my last hour of my work day I always go to Sylvia to get my blog topic of the day and write my blog. My experience at this company thus far has been really amazing. I have gotten really fond of people and I feel more responsible than in past jobs I have been in. The people here are very nice and I can be professional yet frivolous at the same time. What I would like to work more on would be to learn how to use AutoCAD and Photoshop more effectively. I really like those and I would like to use them later on. Something that I could probably fix with Ideal would be that fact that many kids are dropping out of school in Detroit. We could have fair or people from schools to talk to kids about what they can do. I have

Finally Finished by Richard Zarate

Today when I got off the bus, I went straight to Ideal Surplus. They weren't going to do cycle counting so I continued on my task of putting the picture id on the items. I sat at Jose's desk and worked on my task. I finished the remaining items on a stack of papers and continued to work on another. I did about 8 pages before going to lunch. I had lunch with Enrique in the large conference room,   After lunch I came back to Surplus and continued to work on my task. I finally finished my project around 2:30,  one hundred twenty-six papers of items that needed pictures. Gary gave me another assignment to work on. After I finished, I started to write my blog. My day was pretty great today.   What do I hate about Ideal Group? There isn't really anything that I hate about Ideal Group that is serious, but there's a few complaints. Once in a while, the refrigerator gets full and I can't put my lunch inside. That's about it, there's isn't anything that I hat

Jacqueline Perez November 13, 2015 Favorite Place My favorite place in Detroit is Fort Wayne, which is a historical fort on the coast of the Detroit river that has been preserved by the city. I usually go there to play soccer, or see my brother play. It’s very quiet and calm if you walk around the old houses and I think that’s what I like the most. It brings lots of serenity and happiness because of the surrounding area and the soccer fields that are off to one side of the property. Although it’s my favorite place, it could use some improvements. Some improvements might be to get more people to visit and tour that way the people in surrounding communities know about this gem we have in Detroit. I would also fix the soccer fields because some are uneven and not to proper field measurements. I would get SDEV to help me that way I know it would be done in a safe environmental friendly way. I would make sure I have youth involved as well that way I know it’s going to be done to t

Favorite Place: Greektown, Detroit                 If you’re looking for a cinematic theme with colorful lights, attractions, and places to explore, Greektown is your place. With this hot spot being only 15 minutes away, it’s hard not to go there throughout the year.                 I go for the pleasurable walking experience. When I used to go with a friend, we would pass by Cold Stone Creamery and walk down Monroe Street. On this street, small decorative lights would hang across the street from building to building, illuminating the street dimly enough for you to be able to see, but also able to add color to the area. It doesn’t get very crowded either, and the sidewalks are in good shape. It’s my equivalent of going on walks on the beach, as other people enjoy.                 Although this place is marvelous in its overview, it lacks security at times. People are constantly watched over in secrecy by thieves and you can be a victim of pickpocketing at night. I hear man

Dirty Hands by Richard Zarate

Today I got to do something different at Surplus. I had to cycle count the inventory what we have in VID 07 through VID 09, the last time I went through those VIDS was when I first started working at Ideal Surplus. Gary had me work with Paul Screws. We started on VID 07, I had to say the part # to Paul and say the quantity. I got my hands dirty by touching all the parts, it reminded me when I used to clean my hands almost every second back then, but I didn't mind it now. We to VID 08 before lunch.    My brother brought me some tacos for lunch, not a ham sandwich. I ate and later talked to Enrique about school. After lunch, I went back to Surplus. Paul wasn't there, so I did about 2 drawers before he came back. Cycle counting isn't hard, but just time consuming because you have to check the quantity, especially for a bag of screws. We finished all the VIDS that had to be checked. After I finished, I went to go write my blog. My day was pretty good and I look forward to n

My favorite place in Southwest Detroit is Downtown Detroit. This is because you see the culture, beauty, and freedom of Detroit there. I also really love going to Downtown because it makes me feel the prosperity that this city has. In Downtown Detroit you can see everything from technology, innovated architecture, to even an entirely different country. If I were to make Downtown Detroit better I would try to help solve the homeless problem there. Even though this is my favorite place, it makes me sad to see a homeless person around every couple of corners. I would also fix the old abandoned train station, along with other vacant buildings. Maybe we could convert those building into soup kitchens. Today went by pretty slowly, at first, but then it really picked up around then thirty. I first checked in and did any scans as usual. After I had completed the scans I asked for more work and I ended up going to the steel office. There they taught me a bit in Adobe Photosh

Jacqueline Perez November 6, 2015 Animal Cruelty In the last couple of years I have seen lots of documentaries, articles and animal protection agencies that help stop animal cruelty. My aunt was the first to introduce me to the topic and ever since I’ve been interested in it. I know that if I could change something in the world, it would be the way humans treat animals. Animal cruelty is in different parts of our economic industry, especially here in America. In places like Europe or Australia animal cruelty laws have more restrictions than in the US. Here in the US, Cosmetic companies use animals to test their products, but over the years there has been new technology than can be used instead of animals. Most meats that are in our local groceries come from animals that were once part of a company that has animal cruelty. In these places the animals are kept in small, dirty confined spaces for all of their lives and sometimes abused. My family is from a small town in Mexico

Fixing Desalination Techniques If I could solve any problem, I would fix the issue regarding the expensive and unproductive technology of desalination. Desalination is the process of using reverse osmosis to convert salt water into fresh water by removing many of the minerals and harmful bacteria in seawater. Not only will this solve the crisis of not having available drinking water many arid areas of the world suffer from, but ir could also save the lives of hundreds of millions around the world. Desalination is used today, but the process is very costly. According to a study conducted by Live Sciences , “Current methods require about 14 kilowatt-hours of energy to produce 1,000 gallons of desalinated water.” The amount of gallons desalinated after this costs around three or four dollars, which sounds great for 1000 gallons. Then the real problem occurs when you realize that the nation water use is, “3.9 trillion gallons,” according to The Water Information Program . This me

If I could fix anything in this world it would the horrible even of World War II, including the Holocaust, or everything that has happened in the Middle East for the past couple of decades. I would choose these specifically because incredible amounts of hate have been generated towards people who just want to right to their country and keep their families safe. Innocent people have been mass murdered because of hatred, racism, and people thinking that violence and war is the only way to keep peace and so-called dignity to their country. I would gather, if possible, some of the most rational, resourceful, and noble presidents we have ever had. I would also gather the most powerful men that aren’t built upon war and violence. The people would help me by gathering their nations and stopping the problems before they arose at all. They would help out by giving back to people who had nothing and grew to hate because they had nothing. They would help me think of answers be

Almost Done! by Richard Zarate

Today was a pretty good day. When I got to Surplus, I changed clothes and went to Gary's office. Gary had me working on the Picture Numbers project. I continued a stack of papers that I was working on last week. I used Dennis's computer for the morning. I did about 12 pages before going to lunch. When I got to the main building, I talked to Sylvia for a while before going to lunch.    During lunch, me and Enrique worked on our essays for English III. After lunch, I went back to Surplus. I finished the stack of papers and went to Gary's desk for more. Gary gave me 10 papers to work on. I did about 5, and I need 20 more pages to go, so I can finish my long project. My day was very proficient.

Today at Ideal I met many new people like Sylvia, Andrew, Osmara, Amanda, Chris, Jose, and many more other people. I got a tour of the whole place and visited all of buildings. Afterwards I went with Andrew and helped out with the vendor statements. It took a while for the computer to start up but after that I could do my job. Overall I had a had a great time and met many people. I am very excited for next week!
Christian Perales November 3, 2015 Homecoming 2015 My experience at homecoming this year was great! In preparation for homecoming, my school had spirit week, in which the whole school took part in. Before homecoming, my date came to my house with her parents to talk to my parents and take pictures before the dance. After pictures were taken,  and compliments as well, I took my date to a restaurant to eat before the dance. After we were done eating, I called my dad to drive us to the gym where the dance was being held. When he arrived at the restaurant, he had me drive to the gym, but that was no worry because I had gotten my drivers permit from drivers training over the summer, that is also where I met my date. When we arrived I introduced her to many of my friends, who were very excited to meet her. After a little while more people showed up and the real fun had started.  The music was playing, people were singing and dancing and everyone I saw was having a good time. The DJ

What will college do for me?                 Upon entering college, I plan to succeed in the pre-medical curriculum because of my interests in anatomy and biology. More specifically, I plan on specializing in Endocrinology, which is the study of the glands, metabolism, diabetes, and obesity. My interest in Endocrinology began when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes four years ago. I want to help other youth that have juvenile diabetes because I know the struggles of being young and having strict diets and heath conditions. I have the experience of knowing the problems of juvenile diabetes, and how to overcome them. Now I just have to get the proper education to help others accurately.                 At my future college, I would be able to follow a pre-medical curriculum and have the credits to be able to go to medical school afterwards. I also found out that there are many clubs and activities that group people with similar interests together to succeed in class. The bene

Jacqueline Perez October 30, 2015 Homecoming Today is our annual homecoming dance. Leading to homecoming we have had different spirit day celebrations, except Monday. Unlike most schools Detroit Cristo Rey’s homecoming is laid back. Every day of the week we have different days celebrated. On Monday we had Twin Day and I my best friend and I wore the same dress that we both already had. The following day it was spirit day, so we were allowed to wear school wear and dodgeball was the celebration. The next day it was battle of the classes, so each class had colors they had to wear. In the afternoon the celebration was dance off, so each class chose dancers that would represent each class. On Thursday we had Throwback Thursday and in the afternoon we threw pies at the teachers for fundraising. The actual Homecoming Dance is today. After work I have to hurry and get ready. I bought a very inexpensive dress, but it’s very pretty. I’m sure it’ll be fun and I can’t wait!
