My last work day for 2014 by Richard Zarate

Today when I got here, I sat in Osmara's desk and checked my email. I started my day by doing some scans. While I was working, Linzie came and started talking to Amanda about going to the airport for the meeting with the consulate of Mexico. She asked me if I wanted to go and I said yes. We left around 10:10 AM. We went to the  Coleman A. Young International Airport. They had a meeting about DAC(Detroit Aircraft Corporation). The meeting was great and interesting.  After the meeting, Linzie took me and Amanda out to eat. We went to a restaurant on Russell St. It was good, I ate a turkey club sandwich and chicken noodle soup. When we got back to the office, I finished the scans. I asked Alex for some more work and she gave me a mailer list to do. My day was pretty great and awesome because I got to learn new things and I met new people.   Today, I got to go to  DAC(Detroit Aircraft Corporation). There a company that makes drones. They had a meeting with the consulate of Mexico

Today when I got here, I went to go sit in Osmara's desk. Amanda asked me to go get some cleaning supplies from her car. After I got the supplies, I started working on a calendar for Cadillac Urban Garden. I worked on the calendar until 10:00 AM. I did some scans for marketing and I finished around 11:30 AM. I asked Amanda for some work and she asked me to work on the Ideal Surplus website. I worked on it until lunch.  After lunch, I continued working on the website. Sylvia asked if she could look at my calendar. She suggested that I should replace a picture with one that has people inside. So I did a few improvements on the calendar. After I finished, I continued with the website. I gave Amanda the paper to make up a work day and she told me I was going to work in Ideal Surplus. My day was pretty good.  Last Saturday and Sunday, I got to work in Camp Frank. On Saturday, Jose Perez picked me up and we went to work with Alex as well. We only worked for 3 hours, we moved some of

A slow day by Richard Zarate

Today when I got here, I checked my email. Alex didn't leave me any work today, so I did some of the work I didn't get to finish yesterday. Later Amanda gave me a long assignment to work on. I had to get on the Ideal Surplus website, but it took a long time to load. I had to put in some products for the website. Amanda and Sylvia were in a meeting and I was mostly by myself. I work on my task until lunch.   After lunch, I continued to work on the website, I accidentally hit refresh and I had to start over, but luckily I  saved before lunch and I only had to redo a few products. While I was working, Frank came and introduced me to someone. Later, Sylvia asked me to organize some of Frank's papers. I also unloaded the dishwasher. Today was pretty much a slow and simple day.   What is one thing I'm grateful for? I'm grateful to have my family. Both my parents helps me a lot in my life. My older sister, Osmara, helps me in school and work. My older brother, Oscar,

Today when I got here, I sat in Sylvia's desk for a while. I checked my email and then I did last week's tasks because I wasn't here. I started by doing some scans, I had to save them on the network. After an hour, I was moved to Frank's desk because Sylvia came. I continued to do the scans. After I finished saving them onto the network, I had to save them in Sugar. While I was working, Osmara asked me to put up some papers around the building. After I finished, I continued working on the scans. After I finished with the scans, Osmara took a picture of me for the Group Scoop and then we went to lunch.   After lunch, Alex gave me some postcards to mail out. There were a lot of them, but I managed to finish all of them. I gave Frank's fish tank a quick scrub and I also fed his fishes. After I fed his fishes, I went upstairs to Contracting to help them. I did some filing and then I went back downstairs and wrote my blog.   What was my favorite thing I did over the

Christopher Lara 11-20-14

Christopher Lara 11-20-14                 I completed today’s tasks at a much more productive pace, compared to my last work day. I noticed this increase because of the amount of work I finished, and the time it took. Now, I am getting into the habit of this repetitive work cycle and have adapted my mind to focusing better.                 To put my work in perspective, I can tell you an example of today’s tasks. Normally, I attach shipping slips to the corresponding invoices, and a stack of around 40 invoice groups takes up my whole day. Today was different, though. I was able to get through three stacks of relatively same size groups! I’m thinking the reason was because I knew where to look for faster attachment, and my mind was more focused than other days. None the less, I feel confident in my work-style and I am hoping to practice even more for faster completion times.                 At the end of the day, I was able to practice consistency and endurance throughout to

Today went by fast. When I got here today, I checked my email. Alex left me some postcards to send out. They were pretty easy to get done. After I finished, I did a mailer list for Alex. She wanted me to get the locations of the Gordon Food Service's locations. There weren't that many to do. Later I went upstairs to help Ideal Contracting. I helped them file some papers.  For lunch, my mom brought me some fresh cooked taquitos. After lunch, I started to help Sylvia. She asked me to scan the thank you later from the Book Nook into one sided. It was tricky at first, but I managed to finish. Later, Sylvia asked me to organize some papers, put them into a folder, and to make some labels. I made some folders for Sylvia's papers and I sent out a letter for her. Today was a good day.   Next week I'm moving houses. My mom wanted to change house so is could suit us better. Were moving into a smaller house than the one we live in. The house isn't that small but it's s

Today when I got here, I went to Osmara's desk and checked my email. I started my day by putting some scans into the network and then into sugar. After I finished, I updated the mailer list. Alex left me some postcards to mail out. Amanda congratulated me on making it into the 2nd honors. I started by putting the labels on the postcards and then I mailed them out. Later, I continued to do the mailer list from last week.   After lunch, I went into Frank's office to clean his tank, I scrubbed of some of the algae that was on the glass and then I fed them. I went back to my desk and continued to do the mailer list. During the afternoon, I went upstairs to Ideal Contracting and helped them. I helped them by filing a stack of papers. I went downstairs later and worked on the mailer list and then wrote my blog. My day was pretty great.   What did I think about the SHPE Career Fair? I thought It was pretty great. Jacqueline Perez - Why Detroit Cristo Rey Students Write Blogs

Jacqueline Perez November 13, 2014 Why Detroit Cristo Rey Students Write a Blog                         There are many reasons for why Detroit Cristo Rey students write blogs. We write about what we have done throughout the day. A work related topic or we’re given a topic that has to do with the interns or events we have attended.             Most student interns talk about their daily tasks. All Cristo Rey Students work in different departments so everyone talks about different things we have done throughout the day. I usually talk about what I do in the Admin office because that’s where I work. I help Sylvia and Amanda and I talk about the tasks they prepare for me.             On occasions Detroit Cristo Rey students attend events or have a topic that is given to us to write about. Today my topic is “Why Detroit Cristo Rey Students write a blog”. I will also be writing a blog about a career fair I went to. Some students receive a topic and write about it on their blog an

Christopher Lara 11-6-14

Christopher Lara 11-6-14 Working in the office today taught me that I have a family-based work group in the Ideal Group. I say family-based because everyone I work with appreciates and respects the Cristo Rey Interns as if they were their own younger sibling. Although the level of professionalism stays average, I get along with everyone equally and have found some of my co-workers to be mentors that have personalities that can help me. I've noticed this relation because of my recent birthday. Sylvia, who is my much respected mentor and friend, took me out to lunch for this occasion. We had a great time and it reminded me of the family I have that cares about me. Also, people like Jackie, the Contracting team, and the Sales team care and congratulate me for this celebrator day. Other than celebrating with my amazing co-workers, I continued to develop consistency in my tasks by organizing and attaching shippers to invoices. Although I did not finish it entirely, I was able

Today when I got here, I went to go find Amanda Kowalski, because she knew where the keys are to open the admin office. I sat down in Amanda's desk and checked my email. I made some folders for Sylvia and then I entered some contacts for Sylvia as well. I also took care of some tasks for Osmara. After I finished, I continued a mailer list from yesterday. I finished the list right before lunch.   After lunch, I printed out the labels and posted them on postcards. After I finished I mailed out the postcards. They process to mail out the postcards is long. After I finished, I started a new mailer list for Alex. While I was working, Sylvia asked if I could unload the dishwasher. After I unloaded the dishwasher, I continued working on the mailer list and later I wrote my blog. I went to Ideal Contracting and helped them file some papers. My day today was pretty great.

I asked Alex for some work and she gave me some postcards to send out. They were easy to do. Later Sylvia asked me to look for a bigger envelope to mail out the Ideal interns' presentations. I was able to find a bigger envelope and I made a label and mailed it out.   After Lunch I started to work on a mailer list that Alex gave me. I also sorted out some mail for Sylvia and shredded some papers too. Jesse came to talk to Sylvia and then he talked to me about taking the ACT and SAT.  I worked until 2:30, because Kelly was going to teach me how to watch after the tank in Frank's office. She taught me how to feed the fish, how to clean the tank, and where to order the supplies. After I finished, I went back to my desk to work on my blog. My day was pretty great.   What did Jesse talk

Today was a pretty good day.   What is my favorite thing about being a Sophomore? I'm glad that I'm not a Freshmen because last year we got to miss a lot of fun activities in school. We missed the spirit games and we had to go to work on Wednesday (pizza day). And every year that goes by, I get closer to graduation.

Jacqueline Perez - Working alongside Sylvia

Jacqueline Perez October 23, 2014 In the office working alongside Sylvia             I was very productive in what I did today. I helped Sylvia with DACA this morning and now I’m in charge of updating the spreadsheet. I also have to email Sylvia and Joanne regularly about the DACA applicant’s statuses. I also called some of the applicants to see if they can come in for some signatures that were left unsigned.             I took my lunch and while I was on lunch break I did some homework. I worked on a US History essay.             After lunch I worked on the GM Cares Week Before and After PowerPoint. I added some pictures, fixed texts and moved slides around. I also did the cover page for the binder where my blogs go. Overall it was an amazing day working in the Administration office.

Jacqueline 10-20-14

Jacqueline Perez October 20, 2014             I did a lot of things today that I liked. I went around Detroit to local businesses with Rachel to pass out flyers. I also worked on the last DACA applications that need to be mailed. I also helped Sylvia with GM Cares Week PowerPoint because it needed some finishing touches.             In the morning the first thing I did was write my thank you letters to Paul Blavin and the London’s, who came to visit last Monday and were very nice and helpful. I learned more about college and different colleges. I, then, began to work on the PowerPoint and editing some of the slides. After that I went out to lunch with Rachel Gutierrez and we ate tacos from Taco Veloz. After our lunch we went around Detroit to some local businesses to put up and pass out flyers for DIA Away. When I came back I worked on DACA and making sure people had all the signatures. I was very productive today and very proud of what I got done.

Today was a pretty long day. When I got here, I saw that someone was sitting in my usual spot. So I went to go sit in Osmara's desk. I did some scans until Zach gave me some work to do. I had to go to the item master and changed the number of inventory. I started to work, I just had to change the quantity and date for each item, but there was a lot to do. I continued to work until lunch.   After lunch I went back to Osmara's desk and continued to work. I said hi to Frank, after a while, I finished my work. Sylvia asked me to make some folders for her. They were easy and fast. I handed Sylvia the folders and she gave me a high five. I called Zach to tell him I finished. My day was pretty great.   What did I think about "Who Moved My Cheese" by Spencer Johnson. It was a great book, the book made you think who you are. There's 4 characters, 2 humans who are named Hem and Haw, 2 mice named Sniff and Scurry. Sniff responds to things when they are changing. Scurry

After lunch, I started to add to the Subway spreadsheet. I got to finish Ohio, New Jersey, and Connecticut. I asked Amanda for some work and she asked me to make a folder for some papers. Then she gave me a spreadsheet to do. I had to search for a product and see if Ideal Surplus were in the first five. Today was a great day.   Yesterday I met Paul Blavin,  James and Patricia London. All the Ideal Group interns had to give a presentation. Paulina went first, then Chris, Jackie and then me. I was pretty nervous about giving my presentation. I felt I did good. After the presentations we gave our guests some tours

Christopher Lara 10-9-14

Christopher Lara 10-9-14 Today was a very casual day. I completed a repetitive task that took up a large portion of my day, but the outcome was well worth the effort.  The task can be described as matching shippers with invoices. I’ve done this multiple times in the past, but today’s set of invoices took longer than usual. The procedure for this task was simple. First, find the shipper with the corresponding invoice, then staple. Today’s set took longer because I was not as energized as usual. Next time, I will eat breakfast so my mind can stay active and awake, thus being ready for any situation or task Ideal Contracting throws at me. Overall, I had fun talking with Maria today, and I enjoyed the company of my great boss, Yesenia.
Today at work I was doing a lot of printing.I was doing printing for Tony and Steven. They sent me email of what thy wanted me to do for the day. They started by talking to me and tell me where to put them and how many they wanted. they wanted 3 stets of each one i was going to print. When they finished explaining me what to do. I started waiting for Steve to put the files and the papers that he wanted me to print. He was putting them in my flash drive that they gave me so it can be easy for me to change and print them.  When I finished with printing all of those papers I had my lunch break for a hour. I had finished  my lunch early so i got bored and walked around. I have went downstairs to go talk with Osmara like i always do in lunch. she wasn't in he office so i looked for her and I saw her in the kitchen. She was cleaning the refrigerator because they told her to she didn't want to i would ether because their was old moldy food that been their for a long time. I could te

Ideal Surplus by Richard Zarate

Yesterday Amanda told me that I was going to work at Ideal Surplus. When I got here, Amanda asked me to wait because Zack, Gary, and Chris were in a meeting. I sat down on my desk and worked on my PowerPoint and I read "Who Moved My Cheese." When I got to Surplus, Zack asked me to check inventory. I checked about 2 drawers of inventory and then it was time for lunch.    I went to Ideal Group for lunch, after lunch I went back to Surplus. I continued to check inventory for the rest of my day. I was working so much that I lost track of time. Zack told me that I could leave. I went back to Ideal Group and wrote my blog. My day was great.   Do I like working sitting down or constantly moving. I like working in a office setting but eventually you get tired and bored. I like to move around a lot when I work, I stay active and I don't get bored. Each of them has there pros and cons. I like both jobs equally.

Today was the bake sale to support cancer, I bought 2 cookies and a cupcake and I donated a dollar. I went upstairs to contacting and filed some papers. I put back some folder into the drawers. I helped Maria put some papers together. I helped Osmara organize the food for the meeting.    After lunch, I helped Osmara organize some stuff. I went back to my desk and did some more scans that Alex sent me. I worked on my PowerPoint, I got pretty far and I feel good about it. My day was pretty simple, I wrote my blog at the end. Today was a great day.   Why are scholarships important? I feel that scholarships are a benefit for anyone who gets one. Scholarships help anyone who doesn't have money, let's face it, the economy isn't good right now and probably your parents don't have

Jacqueline Perez - October 2, 2014

Jacqueline Perez October 2, 2014                         I had a great day working in the Administration office. I worked with Sylvia and worked mostly with the GM metrics. I calculated the number of hours each company volunteered that came to the Junction Street Clean Up. I first got the company names and the people that came. Then I got the number of hours that were worked and multiplied it up and got my totals. I finished the spreadsheet and I also worked a little more on the Thank You letter for the companies that came for GM Cares Week.             It was a very productive day and I enjoyed working in the Admin office.

Christopher Lara 10-2-14

Christopher Lara 10-2-14                 Today’s tasks improved my knowledge of the work I’m doing at Ideal. Many of the tasks have been repetitive, and other than using the skill of memorization, a steady routine was being incorporated into my internship.                 The past couple of work days have shown me that a steady routine is going to be necessary completing my tasks for the day. To begin, I come and ask if there are any special tasks that should be completed. After, I file some paperwork that is on a rack on top of the cabinets. Then, I file some more paperwork for Chelsea, and I match shippers to invoices. Finally, I filed hard-dollar folders or any other types of paperwork for Maria.                 These tasks are always present in my work days for the Contracting side of Ideal, so if I put them into a set routine for the day, then my day goes much smoother.

Jacqueline Perez - Sep. 25, 2014

Jacqueline Perez September 25, 2014                         Today I completed many things. I helped Sylvia because she was out of the office.  I worked on the GM Cares week ‘Thank You’ letter for all the companies and people that helped.  I also worked a little on DACA.  I redid some forms for DACA students. I had them come in and finish their paper work later in the day.  I also downloaded more pictures from GM Cares Week and saved them to their respectful folders. I had a very productive day and I’m happy with all I got accomplished.

Jacqueline Perez - GM Cares Week After Math /

Jacqueline Perez September 22, 2014 After math of GM Cares Week I had a great work day working alongside Sylvia today. I invested most of my time in the after math of GM Cares Week. In the morning I filed some pictures of GM Cares Week and I saw all the progress that was done to clean up Junction Street. I also worked on an Excel spreadsheet that consists of the people that volunteered and how many hours volunteered. I also added the materials that were used throughout the week. I am very happy to see the many different companies that came together to help out the neighborhood. When I had time I helped Theresa sort the mail and deliver it to their correspondents. Overall today was a very productive day.

Long Day by Richard Zarate

Today when I got here, Alex left me a task list on my desk. I had to mail out some postcards, update the mailing folders, save PO's to the network and sugar. I started by mailing out the postcards, there were a lot but it didn't take too long to finish. I updated the mailing folders, they were quick and easy. Then the long task came, saving PO's to the network and sugar. There were about 150 PO's so I started to work. You have to open the folder with the PO's and the scans folder. You have to open the PO and get the order number, then you search the order number on the network and drag the PO to the correct folder. It's a short process but it takes a long time when you have to do a lot of them.   After I dragged all the PO's to their folders, I went to lunch. After lunch, I started to save the PO's on sugar. This took a long time to do, but I got to finish by 2:00 PM. I went upstairs to help Ideal Contracting, I filed for them and help them organize s

Christopher Lara 9-25-14

Christopher Lara 9-25-14 Today at Ideal, I realized an important part of being proficient in this company. Prior to my past beliefs, I thought that having a great degree and attending school for many years decided your ability to complete tasks at Ideal, but what really helps is your experience.                 Having many years of experience, and a college degree, is what helps you get through the day at Ideal. An example would be comparing my first day here to my fourth day here. The first day, I was organizing hard dollar folders by number throughout six cabinets. Getting through a stack of about 20 folders would take me around 15-20 minutes. Now, comparing that to today, I only took about 2-4 minutes! A simple routine like this was tremendously shortened by several times of practice. What does this have to do with working at Ideal? Picture the same idea, getting through a task with experience, but with an array of companies to work with. Memorizing and learning what companie

Emma Flores September17, 2014               Today at work, I began stapling papers together for the human resource department. After I finished that, I started making labels to put on the envelopes. I also was filing and working on the computer to enter invoice processing for Ideal Setech. It was hard and confusing but I got the hang of it. Kelly was very helpful when I was struggling with vouchering but she explained it very well and easily so it wasn’t that hard to understand.             When I was done, I was helping Alex in marketing with getting information from places on a website for mailers. I needed to get the address, state, city, and the zip code. I hard to record all the information for Oakland, and Kansas and two others. Lunch was boring because I had nothing to do. I wasn’t hungry so I didn’t eat.   I instead played some card games on my phone.                  During my break I went to go talk to the lady next door to m

Later that day, Gary gave me a list and told me to search the prices on those items. Later, Amanda gave me some papers to bind.   After lunch, I continued doing the list, I checked out Dartmouth College and saw some great things. Chris Lara 9-4-14

Chris Lara 9-4-14 My first day began with meeting the members that make up the construction part of Ideal. I met people that worked on other job sites like Barton Mallow and the Warren Tech Center, people in accounting, and other employees that kept the Contracting cycle in motion. I enjoyed meeting the people I was going to work with. After, I went back to my original desk. The rest of my day was filled with detailed paperwork that kept my mind searching for inconsistencies. Chelsea had some filing to complete which had to be done in alphabetical order. When I was done with this, Maria had me work on my first auditing job. I compared invoices against waivers. This was done by making sure all the paperwork had the same company name or amounts. Doing these auditing tasks made sure everything was consistent, so the correct checks were cut and sent to their corresponding vendors. It has a big affect on many companies because they had to get the exact amount of money they were being

The first day here was pretty good they made me file a lot but it was pretty easy. I meet a lot of people that I will be working with. They are very nice and funny they are not your typical workers. they joke around with each other. It was better then I thought it would be. I felt really comfortable with the people I was working with. They should me hoe to use the machines that will help me fold and how to send a letter. When I first got their I was scared but then I went to talk to a lady that was once in Cristo Rey that told me that the job is really easy and all you have to do is try and do  your best. Back At School. By Richard Zarate

Today was the first day of school and I get to go to work. When I got here, I said hi to Andrea, Dennis, and Brad. I updated the mailer list and started doing mailers. When I was doing the list, I notice that some addresses were wrong, so I skip those. I went to go say hi to Amanda and talked to her and she reminded me that I have to do a blog. I went back to my desk and continued my work. At 12:00, I went to lunch.    During lunch, I showed Amanda a picture of Ayleen, it was her first day of school.  After Lunch, I went back to work. I Used Google and Jimmy John's website to help me on my task, another website gave me wrong information, which made me start over. I continued to work for the rest of the day.I'm glad to be back at Ideal Group and getting to work again. Today was a great first day of school.   What are my three goals for this school year? Chris Lara 6-10-14

Chris Lara 6-10-14 This year has stood out to me more than the years before. I've been given the opportunity to meet important people in the business industry, evaluate and experiment with sustainable ideas, and work with a caring, productive, and creative company during my internship sponsorship by The Ideal Group. During the 2013- 2014 internship/ school year, I was able to meet and network with many people who change Detroit, the nation, and even the world. John Bradburn is a clear example of someone who hits these three points directly. He works with General Motors in reducing waste products, and he is also an Environmental Engineer! We have worked together in placing the shipping containers in Cadillac Urban Gardens, and other Detroit located gardens, to produce mass amounts of vegetables for the community. I was able to meet a man who cares for his fellow Detroiters and someone who spreads the message of reducing pollution throughout the world. I’ve also been able

Jacqueline Perez - June 10, 2014             I have worked hard today and I feel very accomplished. I worked for Setech and assisted Kelly. When I came in this morning, I checked the filing cabinet and saw there were a lot of invoices to be filed. I filed all the unpaid invoices for Defiance, and then did some for paid invoices. Kelly then sent me the aging so I could take care of statements. I looked through each statement and checked if they were on the aging or not.             For lunch Linzie took Jose, Alex and I out to lunch. We went to O’Blivions and I had some real good onion rings. I also talked to Linzie during lunch and she offered to give me a job in the marketing office. I will now be working two days in the accounting office and a day in marketing. I’m happy for the opportunity to work here and save money for college.

Last Day at Ideal Group

Today is my last day as a Cristo Rey Intern and I have to say that I am very happy that I made it this far. If it wasn’t for the people of this company I don’t know where I’ll be today. Everyone from Abel in the shop to Amanda in the office have helped me become the person that I am today from learning how to speak with proper manner to drilling a hole through some pipe. I am blessed to have all these people in my life and I’m happy that Ideal Group was my first job since freshmen year. I’ve learned so much and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead. There are so many things I can say about this great company, but I’ll just start by saying thank you to everything.                 My day at Ideal started a lot different today I got a call from Sylvia asking me to go to the garden. I changed into my gardening cloths and Amanda took me to the Contracting building to get a work shirt. Afterwards, I went with a group of people from GE to clean up the neighborhood and gather

Last Day as a Detroit Cristo Rey Student

. Today was my last day working as a Detroit Cristo Rey student here at Ideal and I can really say I enjoyed it. Sunday I graduate so I’m looking forward to that. Well, I came in at Ideal and started to do PDPM and hard dollar folders, while I was doing that Maria was getting the material checks ready for me. When I was done I started filing invoices that I left on my desk last Friday. Material checks were ready so I started as soon as possible since it was a lot of checks today. When I was done with material checks I gave them to Maria, they were a few checks that were missing some invoices so I handed them to Chelsea .             Finally it was time for me to go the garden and help out. I went to change clothes very quickly and I headed to the garden. It was lunch time, the good thing was Taco Veloz was there so I had tacos for lunch, which I enjoyed eating them. A few minutes past and I was waiting on Sylvia to give me instructions on what to do, she told me to go to Sarah and s

Jacqueline Perez - June 3, 2014

Jacqueline Perez – June 3, 2014             I worked for Setech today and I got a lot done. I helped Kelly get caught up on her work. I did finish some of the filing and then I pulled the invoices for the check run. I had to match the checks to the correct invoices and find the invoices that were missing.               For lunch I went to Oblivions with Amanda, Kelly and Theresa. I had a bacon burger, which was delicious. After we got back from lunch, I worked on statements that had to be taken care of. I also confirmed my schedule for the summer interning. It was a very productive day for me at the accounting office.

June 2!

Today was a good day. I started to put invoices in alphabetical order while I was waiting on Maria, since the door was locked. Soon as I got done filing the invoices, Maria came. There were more invoices to file on my desk so I got it done right away. When I was done with the invoices there was PDPM and hard dollar folders to file. Lunch came and Maria had some Pasta for me in the fridge, so I went and got it. It was a pretty good meal. When I done with lunch I started to archive folders for Julie. I had been busy archiving all Daniel’s folders and I had the time free to do them today. I was done with a few boxes, so I put them aside until Julie comes back. Overall, may was good.  Jose Patino

Jose Perez 2nd last day

Today was a very good day at Ideal. I started my day by saying hi to my good old friend Amanda. Afterwards I went upstairs and Chris gave me a task to do; making a spread sheet so that we know everything is done correctly. At first I had trouble figuring out what I should do but Amanda Kowalski gave me a few tips. When I had finished I went to do some prints for Tony and also look for some jobs that we needed.                 At lunch, the guys and I went to Green Dot since it was their first time I was excited to see what they would think of it. When we got there, they liked how it looked and after they tasted the food I knew that they loved it. When we came back to Ideal I had a conversation with Linzie about me working in the summer. I was glad to see that everything was working out great and I can’t wait to start working.                 After the talk with Linzie, Frank called me into his office and I was happy to see that he gave me tickets for the Tigers game this Thur

its friday

Today at Ideal I started my day by checking my email and seeing if there was anything for me to start on before I headed upstairs. I had no new emails so I went to the project manager’s office and I asked the guys if they had anything for me to do. Steven gave me some POs to hand to Virginia to enter and I gave Burt the delivery papers to check when they had arrived. Afterwards I saw that Amanda was back and I was happy to see her since she was gone for a while.                 After I came back and there wasn’t anything for me to do so I went to the accounting office and I helped Ideal Setech since Kelly was not here today. When lunch came the guys I went out to eat and had a talk about me going to school and working during the summer. I had a lot of choices to think about and also what I wanted to do during the summer. When we came back I went to my desk to finish my work. When my day was coming to an end Amanda, being the helpful person that she is, got me registered for ever

TGIF

Today was a productive day at Ideal. I started off by filing invoices, while I was in the process of filing them, Nick came and we had a meeting about my future and talking about a program that will be beneficial to me. It took us most of the morning talking about it, once we were done talking I got back to work. When I was done filing, Maria had material checks ready, so I went ahead and did them. Lunch came and Maria asked me if I wanted something from Burger King, I told her that I only wanted a shake, since I wasn’t very hungry. Then later Sylvia wanted Perez and I to go with her to the garden to organize plants that they brought. We finished putting plants where they belonged and we went back to Ideal. I continued doing the material checks. When I was done, I gave them to Maria since she’s in charge of them. Few seconds later, Yesi wanted me to do a flyer for picking up dumped tires. So far, my day has been great. Jose Patino

Today, I sat at Jocelyn's desk. I had trouble getting into my email, so I just went upstairs to help, Maria wanted to file some papers. After I finished, she gave me another stack of papers to file. When I finished, I went downstairs and Amanda said that Surplus had some work for me, but for right now do some mailers. I did some mailers and then I started to help Surplus. They wanted me to search items on the internet and to match our prices. I had find the best price and then multiply it by .85. It was pretty tricky because sometimes the items wouldn't show or they had to be the right size and amount. Later Osmara gave me some flyers to hang around the office.   Me and Osmara went home for lunch, when we got back, it was raining and we made a run for it. We got wet but we dried in no time. I continued to do inventory. Later I hang the flyers around the building to make sure people go to the garden. After I finished, I did the mailers and mailed them out.  I went upstairs an
Jacqueline Perez – May 27, 2014              Today has been great. I worked for Setech. I assisted Kelly with matching the check stubs for the check run. After I looked at the drawings I plotted them out and arranged them all. When I had finished, I went to give a copy to the shop and also turned in a new job that had to be released. When I came back, Steven gave me a few things to do like sending the work orders to Virginia. .     When I had finished my work for the morning, the people in the project manager’s office went to Slows. I had a real good Yardbird sandwhich and a side of waffle fries. I was really full when I came back to work but still did all my work with no problems. Afterwards, I went to help Kelly with accounting work and had some laughs with the people in the accounting office. Overall my day went great and I can’t wait to work here all summer.

Today when I got here, I said hi to Alex and Dennis. Alex gave me labels to do. I started to do the labels. Later Osmara came and told me to make some labels for Sylvia. It didn't take too long, I finished in no time. Then, I had to look for some boxes for some papers. Osmara and I organized the papers in the boxes and we put them in Sylvia's car. I continued to do the labels. Then it was time for lunch.   Osmara and I went to Subway for lunch. Sylvia talked about her son and Sean when they were little. She asked me to write about Memorial Day for my blog topic. When we came back, I got back to work. I finished the labels and put them on postcards and mailed them out. The mailers took a lot of my day. Overall my day was fast and proficient.   What is Memorial Day? Memorial day is celebrated  on the last Monday of May to honor those men and women who died for serving the U.S Military. Jacqueline Perez – May 20, 2014             Today I had a very good day. I worked for Setech alongside Kelly. I began my day by filing for Defiance and Warren, which are two of the locations I work with. I sorted the invoices in alphabetical order and then filed them to their correct drawer. I ate in the conference room along with volunteers that helped out in the Cadillac Urban Gardens today. I enjoyed meeting and talking to them. Overall it was a wonderful day.

Chris Lara 5-20-14 Who is General Electric; why do they help Michigan? General Electric is a corporation who owns many different businesses inside of itself. GE, simplistically, is a manufacturer, and an investor. General Electric manufactures parts that range from kitchen essentials to energy saving engines. They invest in modern, more proficient technologies, which help them have a lead in the profitable world. One of the many reasons they invest in Michigan is for the job opportunities. According to CBS’s local news station, in 2012, General Electric announced to add 300 jobs to the Van Buren Township Advanced Manufacturing and Software Technology Center. These jobs affect a huge part of Michigan’s economic advancement, and I’m sure these jobs help support families. Also, GE has expanded its summer internships for college students by 25% in Michigan alone, so that would allow students to prepare and receive real life training and experience. DAYS AT IDEAL

So long today started out very good. I came into the project manager's office and the guys were happy to see me after a while. They asked how I was doing and gave me some tasks for the morning. I had to organize all the Skyzone projects into the right folders in our system. After, I went to find some things in the shop that needed to be measured and checked for. When I came back to the office I was asked where I wanted to go to lunch and we decided to go get a burger at Oblivions.   I had a really good time talking about the college I was going to and the things I was going to do during the summer. When I came back to the office I talked to Abel about working on Saturday and he said yes. Sylvia then asked me to go to the garden with her and we both went to check what had to be done. When we went back to Ideal I got a few things done and that was my day.

Friday!

Today was a productive day at Ideal. I started to archive folders for Daniel. Later in the morning, Yesi wanted me to make her two folders, once it was done I continued archiving. Then Loren wanted me to go down stairs to meet a lady. We sat down and talked about an opportunity for me going to a job and also help me pay school. It’s a multi-billionaire company, so that just put it out there that I’ll be working in a great place if I start off working there. When the meeting was done I gave her my information.             Lunch came and I had chips and a juice. When I was done with my lunch, Bob wanted me to make a book, Daniel came and also wanted me to make him a binder for a bid he had going on. I came back to my desk and continued archiving. I was done with two boxes, now I got two left to go. Overall, it was a good day. Jose Patino

In the morning it was pretty slow. They didn't have much work for me. I did some simple tasks. I filed some papers for Contracting. Osmara taught me how to make coffee. Later in the day, Microsoft Outlook was messing up. It's didn't let people send emails. Alex gave me a spreadsheet and told me to put the General Motors employees address. I was disturb a lot. Sometimes they had to use my computer. I went to go use Kelly's computer but it didn't let me access Sylvia's contacts. I went back to my desk and tried to log in but it didn't let me. Osmara signed me into her account and I started to work.   For lunch,  Osmara  and I went to Taco Veloz. Sylvia paid for our lunch which was really nice. I got back to work and started adding addresses. Later Osmara told me, I had to put the Mail Code, so I had to go back. and add them. The rest of my day was steady. I added about 130 addresses to the spreadsheet. My day was  productive.

Jacqueline Perez - May 13, 2014

Jacqueline Perez – May 13, 2014             Today was very interesting and fun. I have been full of energy all day. Today, I worked for Setech and Group. I helped Kelly file, sort and voucher invoices. I also helped Kelly pull the check run, which is pulling invoices from the unpaid drawers and stapling the checks that go with them. I then helped Theresa for Group. I assisted her in looking for tracking slips and distributing mail. I also met some employees from the bank across the street that were really nice.             Today for lunch, I had chicken with a side of macaroni with broccoli. It was really good. After lunch we experienced a very short power outage and it was really frustrating because I was in the middle of pulling for the check run. Besides the power outage, today was great.

Chris Lara 5-13-14

Chris Lara 5-13-14 I believe public speaking is a skill that can be mastered with repetition and practice. Recently, I was able to attend a meeting with Father Joe, former principle of Holy Redeemer High School, to discuss the needs of his home, in Detroit. I presented this to a group called “The Dad’s Club” over at Catholic Central, and I had a fun, formal time doing it. Before presenting, I prepared myself with a few tricks I learned from the Ideal Group. One trick I tried was taking notes for each slide, and the house. This allowed my memory to recognize details I would normally forget if I had not taken notes. I also tried to bring a physical copy, but was instead fortunate enough to use a gentleman’s iPad. This worked even better because of the quick transitions between the slides. Also, I noticed that I could barely hear the speakers talk, even when I was sitting in the front row, so I held the microphone closer while annunciation my words. This allowed people to hear

Today was a pretty good day. I sat in Amanda's desk today. Sylvia wanted me to put seeds in half a dozen bags. I did them quickly. Later Sylvia asked me to do another half a dozen bags. When I finished, I went upstairs to help. They had a big stack of papers that needed to be filed. After I finished, I went downstairs and I loaded the dishwasher. Later, I went to check inventory with Alex in the back building. We brought back some stuff we needed. Later Osmara asked me to organize a DACA folder in alphabetical order. After I finished, I helped Maria with some filing and then it was time for lunch.   For lunch, my sister took me to Taco Veloz. Lunch was great and then we went back to Ideal Group. I mailed out a envelope for Sylvia. I took something up to Contracting, I mailed out some more letters too. I changed the binder for the blogs because the old one was full. I helped Osmara with her tasks. I helped her make some DACA folders. My day was great and productive

TGIF

Today went pretty fast if you tell me. I came to Ideal and saw big boxes on my desk, I felt like I was not going to rest today. They wanted me to archive, but before I was thinking to begin, I helped Yesi scan papers to her, then when I was done she wanted me to make three folders. When I was done helping Yesi, Chelsea wanted me to file invoices. Lunch came and I got myself a candy bar and a juice, since I wasn’t that hungry. I began archiving through all afternoon. I managed to finish the big boxes, which were the biggest one, so I was relieved for a moment. Later through out the end of the day, I started to file PDPM and hard dollar folders. Overall, it was a busy day. Jose Patino

Friday Friday

Today was a common day at Ideal Group. I came in and Steve gave me a few things to plot and then Tony showed up. Tony then asked me to sort all the drawings so that it was easier to find what we needed. I then went to print all the new drawings and put them with the old ones so that they can be where they are supposed to go.   After a while Osmara came and asked if I could go with her and Linzie to Cobo hall and help clean up after the event they had.                 Around 11 we headed to Cobo and I had some work to do. I picked up the entire guard rail and the entire handrail and put them in the boxes they belonged in. After a while we were done and we decided to get something to eat. We went to a deli and I had a huge BLT that was to die for. It was fun hanging around with the girls since it has been a while. Overall my day was great and I can’t wait for work tomorrow.

I did them fast. I went to go see Sylvia and asked for some work. She told me to put some seedS in the envelopes. They took awhile, but I finished. I went upstairs to help Ideal Contracting, I met Kelly and Bonnie asked me to file some papers. Later, Osmara came upstairs and told me that when I finish, to go see Amanda. I went to go see Amanda and she told me I was going to help Ideal Surplus. Gary had me put in inventory in the item master.
