The Importance of Giving Back

         

In the month of December, many people begin to wonder what they can get, rather than what they can give. This is the time where many people are excited for Christmas and happily preparing for all of the Christmas festivities. Although some families are quite in the Christmas spirit everyone else is in. In many cases it isn’t because they hate the holidays or the festive joys many people are in, but because maybe they’re not quite financially set for the festivities others have. In some cases, putting food on the table and providing for their family is a struggle on its own.

            The season should be focusing on how you are going to be preparing for Jesus, or just how you can help others in need. Some schools and companies have food and toy drives and collection for donations for families in need. At Detroit Cristo Rey High School, we are having a fund raiser for families in need and are helping around 12 families. In order for the funds to be reached, the school had a week of Christmas spirit, where if you pay $2 and 2 nonperishable items, or $4 you would be allowed to dress in the theme planned out for the day.

 The first day was Christmas color day where students wore red, green or white. The second day was ugly or nice sweater day, the third was candy cane day, the fourth was reindeer or elf day and the last day was Mr. and Mrs. Clause day. In doing this, the school got many people in the festive holiday spirit and successfully raised money toward helping those families in need. When everyone pitches in and helps each other for a common goal, the goal will be reached.
